XC presentation & Trimpell

Hi folks

Re this Sunday 17th March, two quick messages to remind:

We are hosting the winter league presentation event at Aireville School. This should be a fun social event and low key run if you fancy a Sunday morning jogette plus pie & peas, etc (a ‘free’ lunch for Skipton members if we order enough pies). Meet at 9:00-ish. Details via: http://skiptonac.co.uk/?p=784

There have been a few message about car shares for those doing the Trimpell 20. Email either Bill Smith william.smith@ringway.co.uk &/or Julian Hood julian.hood@doctors.org.uk to fix up times & meeting points for this.

Cheers

Paul

WYWL Presentation event

On March 17th we are hosting the West Yorkshire Winter League presentation event between 10am and 2pm at Aireville School. This will comprise a ‘social run’ for visiting runners from the other clubs via Stirton towards Sharp Haw with various distances depending on ability / speed / state of hangover.

Any Skipton members who are around that day would be very welcome to help guide our visitors on the run and to be at the presentation itself which will be good fun. We are providing pie & peas, raffle, etc. This event does clash with the Trimpell 20 which several are doing, we realise.

So, if you fancy doing this for your Sunday run that day, please do. I attach the flyer which has been sent to the other clubs in the league. WYWL-Presentation-Event-17-03-2013

Best wishes

Lighter evening routes and rota

Hi folks

Bill’s prompt to think about ‘summer’ routes is useful because it gives us time to review what we do. British Summer Time begins on 31st March so around that time we would be able to make the switch from the winter routes in and close to Skipton to routes which take us out of town.

For the summer routes, the framework within which we have operated is:

* To have five directions in which we head

* To have a set of predominantly off road and a set of mixed surface routes

& that where possible these routes at least start off in the same direction (for cohesiveness)

& that there is a choice of distances for each ‘surface’ (mileages: 3-4-ish; 4-5-ish; & 6-8)

(But this doesn’t necessarily mean that we need 6 distinct routes each evening!)

As we know there are pros and cons to having set routes and a rota but the pros (having a plan, knowing the distances, people able to be self-sufficient, knowing where other people should be, knowing the hazards so the route can be varied due to circumstances, etc) tend to outweigh the cons (e.g. boredom when you’ve done the routes loads of times!).

I attach the route descriptions and rota which is what we have been using for the past few years. Rick kindly put this together and there have been a few tweaks to the routes and to the order in which we have done things.

It would be good if a group of people could meet fairly soon to look at what we have been doing for the last few years and to devise a set of routes and a rota which we can use until the ‘nights draw in’ again next September (tempus fugit & all that!). Maybe just tweak the existing routes & rota; maybe something more.

Like we did in September, we can use the first few weeks when the evenings are light enough to ensure that people know the routes. If there are new routes devised then the people who devise them can teach us where to go.

Since Wednesdays are a non-club running night how about 6th March or 13th March? This would give people time to think of routes in advance.

Let me know via p.d.norman@leeds.ac.uk (rather than emailing the whole list) if you want to do this and which of the dates you can make. Or any other suggestions, of course!

Best wishes

Paul

P.S. Bill’s suggestion of a regular Tough 10 run could be built into the rota and could be paralleled by a long off road run in a similar direction since the ridge above Carleton Park (route E) extends further and you can then drop down via Cononley and come back on the river bank as Richard has pointed out.

Message from Chris …

Dear Runners
First and foremost:-
What a splendid turn out we had yesterday at the Cross Country!!!!!!!!! Excellent results all round AND many raffle prizes won!
Very MANY thanks to all who were able to run and to those who were there to shout words of encouragement!-Thanks 🙂
Skipton A.C. is doing realy rather well in the Cross Country league-the women’s team is doing very well-and could even finish the legue in a higher position than we ever dreamt of way back in September…….!!!!!!
SO -DO join the team for the final race Dewsbury March 3rd
For those who may feel a little apprehensive regarding the cross country routes-they are no different to the Club’s summer ‘off road’routes (just a bit muddier!)
The events are very sociable and an opportunity to wear your club vest with pride!

Secondly
The next club meeting will be
Wednesday Feb20th
7.30pm
Narrow Boat upstairs
Main agenda item will be:-
Finalising plans for the Cross Country Presentation Event-Sunday March 17

Happy Running
Chris
