Oxfam Trailtrekker

We have had a request for volunteers to help out at next weekend’s Trailtrekker event 1-2 June, 2013. If you can help out, the message and contact details are below.

Hi, My name’s Louise and I work for Oxfam on our Trailtrekker event – a 100km team challenge across the Yorkshire Dales. The event is taking place next weekend (1&2 June) and we are really in need of some extra volunteers to help out along the event. The start and finish line is in Skipton – where I think you are based, so I wondered if any of your club members might be interested in volunteering? There’s lots of shifts across event weekend you can get involved with, from helping at start/finish to being based as one of the check-points along the course. Any help would be greatly appreciated and really will help us to put on a top event for the 1400 participants. The challenge is set to raise a whopping £800,000 for Oxfam – so it really is for a great cause.

Visit http://www.oxfam.org.uk/trailtrekker/volunteer for more info
email eventvolunteer@oxfam.org.uk or lgebbett@oxfam.org.uk

Expenses etc will be paid. Please do pass this on to friends/family or anyone you know in the area that might be interested. Thanks so much, Louise

Trail races

There are some upcoming trail races we have been asked to ‘advertise’:
(plus one road race)

Ingleton Overground Trail Race

On 26 May 2013 we are holding a trail race as part of the Ingleton Overground Underground Festival weekend. The course is 20k over a way-marked course, more details can be found http://www.ogug.co.uk/overground-trail-race/ Entry is £15 pre-entry or £18 on the day. We have £1000 worth of Haglofs kit up for grabs as prizes. For the more active there is also a Mountain Bike Trailquest on the Saturday followed by a night with Andy Kirkpatrick (comedian / climber & not to be missed). If you have enough energy there is also a fell race on the Monday at Austwick as part of the cuckoo festival. Email mick@racingsnakes.com for more information.

Mulgrave 10k

This event will be on 2nd June 2013 and will be totally traffic free within the confines of the Mulgrave Estate. The estate is a mixture of woodland and open park and is situated near Sandsend which in itself is about 2 miles from Whitby. The gardens of the estate are only open 4 times per year and the race coincides with one of these occasions. Registration will be held at the sports centre in Lythe with full changing facilities and a superb canteen available both before and after the race. Full details are on www.loftus-ac.co.uk and I would be grateful if you would pass this information to your members. Tony Hare, Loftus and Whitby AC

Stainland Trail 10k

If you enjoyed the Bluebell Trail 10 miles (CR says 10.3!) and want to relive the experience over a shorter distance and with friendlier hills, applications are now open for the new Stainland Trail 10k in September. The race will start at The Recreation Ground in Stainland village, next to 1885 The Pub, and will take you through woodland, across fields and along rural trails and roads.

Please come and join Stainland Lions in celebrating our 25th anniversary year and run the first ever Stainland Trail 10k. The application form is available to download at www.stainlandlions.com or enter online. If you have any questions or would like me to e-mail the entry form to you, just get in touch at temott@sky.com

Guy Fawkes 10

The Guy Fawkes 10 is on Sunday 3rd November In Ripley, not far from Harrogate. More details can be found on the Nidd Valley Road Runners website

Training: 2nd week May 2013

Hi all

Training for this week:

Tuesday 7th May:

Route D – Skipton Moor/High Bradley & Cawder/Cononley Lane Ends

Intervals – something different!

Thursday 9th May:

Handicap from Aireville park 7 pm.  This is a 10K handicap race out towards Carleton (Embsay route to be introduced at a later date).

For those of you not signed up for this or who don’t fancy it I am sorry but you will have to sort yourselves out on this occasion.

Thursday is also my birthday and it would be nice if as many of you as possible could join me for a birthday drink at the Narrowboat from about 9 pm.

Well done to Jayne Butterworth and Craig Keedy who took part in the first of the Pendle & Burnley Grand Prix races today – the Hameldon Hill Race.  Jayne has obviously recovered from her Three Peaks adventure coming 1st FV45 and Craig had a great run picking up 1st V40 and 9th overall – brilliant!

Jan Smith, Chris Rose, Mark Newbould and myself took part in the Bluebell 10 Trail Race in Halifax today – a tough run but well worth doing.  Chris has put an excellent race report (and photos) up on the website – http://skiptonac.co.uk/?page_id=234

Stainland Lions who hosted this event are putting on a 10K trail race in September which if as well organised as today will be a great run to do.  It would be good to get a lot of us out there to do this especially some of our newer members.  I will post more details shortly.

Don’t forget to let me and Paul know what you are up to for inclusion on the website.

PS – Good luck to Dave Gorman for the Morecambe Half Marathon next weekend!

Emma

Early April training, etc

Hi folks

Tuesday 2nd April

Interval training: Flat sprints

Interim ‘summer’ route: Canal to Thorlby Swing Bridge > Thorlby > Stirton > White Hills > Rockwood (5m) (or Grassington Rd & wherever if you want to extend)

Thursday 4th April

Interim ‘summer’ route: Down Park > Canal > Skipton Woods > Golf Course >, Brackenley Lane > Embsay then back (6.4m) (or Brackenley estate or Embsay loop if you want to extend)

(Hopefully evenings will be light after 8pm in the following week for the new routes rota to kick in properly.)

Sunday 7th April

Quarterly Handicap. Meet 10:30 at the Masons Arms, Marton Rd, Gargrave. Anybody most welcome to run. A handicap race gives everybody an equal chance. If you run 10k in 60 minutes and somebody else runs 10k in 50 minutes then you will set off 10 minutes before them! In theory (and usually in practice), you should finish very close together! Please email Jez Lamb you approx 10k time [jez_barlick@hotmail.com]. The course is a cracking route via canal and Pennine Way. We are so lucky to live near such a fab landscape!

Cheers

Paul

Please keep an eye on our results webpage and let Emma and me have reports about your activities and photos too!
